WHAT IS HERITAGE?
Heritage is a conceptual Asian food and culture magazine that aims to connect Asian diaspora in North America to their ethnic roots and traditions through cuisine. It was created as an academic publication design project in which I developed a magazine concept of my choosing, sourced the related content for a cover story editorial feature, and then compiled, curated, and then typeset and formatted into the final magazine spreads.
The name "Heritage" comes from the idea that home-cooked foods are part of cultural values, customs and traditions that are passed down and inherited from previous generations. Heritage is a magazine meant to reconnect Asian immigrants in North America with their cultural roots through easy-to-follow recipes from their ethnic cuisines and short articles about foods that are commonly found in their home countries either as home-cooked dishes or easy to find outside. The article topics ranged from experiences eating to cooking food, anecdotes about how food has helped people reconnect to their cultures.
